- "Designated Marksman Rifle
Caliber: 7.62x51mm NATO" - — In-game description
The DMR is a standard issue USMC designated marksman rifle that fires 7.62×51mm cartridges from a DMR Mag.. Powerful and accurate at range. The mil-dots in the DMR's scope can be used to estimate the distance from a target. This coupled with knowing how much to hold over can be used to great efficiency.
The DMR mildot sight is zeroed in for 400 meters, at the second zoom level. This means the center of the sight will hit a target at 400 meters and shoot high at smaller distances, significantly in the 200m range. There is two ways to aim using the mildot sight. One could roughly estimate the mils. When doing so, the first, second, third and fourth mildots are respectively at ranges 400, 500, 600, and 700 meters (while aiming down the scope AND zoomed in).
The bottom of the sight (the bar below the lowest mildot) is at the 800 meters mark. Beyond that, the mildots run out, so it becomes near impossible to reliably hit targets past the 800 meters mark, also this is outside of the weapon's effective range.
By using this method (estimating), it is possible to hit a target by aiming at the torso. The shot will land between the neck and upper legs area. So it is not a very reliable method to aim, but it can get the job done. The second, more accurate way, to aim with the DMR scope is to use accurate mil settings to hit more accurately. The mil dot holdovers for the DMR are as follows:
